Little Tabby strongly protested.
Wen Youning placed Little Tabby in the basin, floating on the bathwater.
Little Tabby looked around the water.
As soon as it moved slightly, the basin tilted, and no matter how much it stretched, it couldn’t reach the edge of the bathtub.
“Meow!”
‘This is too much, meow!’
Seeing it couldn’t escape from the top, Little Tabby gave up and lay in the plastic basin.
Its paws scratched at the sides, clearly very upset!
The steam was rising in the bathroom.
Wen Youning got out of the bathtub, rinsed off the foam with the shower,
and wrapped herself in a bathrobe.
“Alright, your turn now.”
“Meow——!”
‘Meow doesn’t want a bath!’
“You have to take a bath. If you take a bath, you can sleep in the bedroom afterward.”
Wen Youning carried both the basin and the little cat out.
“Meow!”
I like to sleep on the sofa!
The little cat continuously protested strongly, but—protest was useless.
When you bring a stray cat home, it needs time to adjust.
Wen Youning had planned to bathe Little Tabby today.
This way, it wouldn’t be stopped if it wanted to jump on the bed afterward.
Today, since Little Tabby’s body had a lot of foam and water on it,
she decided to give it a bath as well.
Wen Youning replaced the basin with a shallower one and added a layer of folded towels inside.
Stepping on the towel would prevent slipping.
Creating a stable and safe environment could reduce the little cat’s fear of bathing.
Wen Youning gently held Little Tabby and slowly lowered it into the water.
“Meow!”
Little Tabby screamed, both angry and anxious, but didn’t extend its claws.
Perhaps because it had never bathed before,
it was extremely nervous while submerged in the water, clinging tightly to Wen Youning’s arm.
“Be good, look, you’re already in the water,”
Wen Youning softly comforted, “It will be over soon.”
“Hmph!”
Little Tabby was furious.
It bit onto the sleeve of Wen Youning’s bathrobe.
The thick fabric filled the little cat’s mouth.
‘Meow, today’s the day we settle this once and for all!’
“Alright, alright, you win.
You’re the strongest little cat.”
Wen Youning poured water onto its back, wetting its fur.
Little Tabby’s cries grew louder, “Meow, aww”
“Alright.”
Wen Youning tapped its damp little nose.
“Your throat is going to be hoarse.
Aren’t you tired? Take a rest.”
“Meow!”
Meow will save you.
Meow has saved you!
Wen Youning guessed that Little Tabby probably wanted to say
“You repay kindness with resentment” or “No good deed goes unpunished.”
After rescuing it, it ended up being forced into a bath.
Little Tabby sulked.
The little cat, still covered in bubbles from the bath gel,
sat in the water basin, looking stiff and sulking.
Watching the bubbles float in front of its eyes,
Little Tabby squinted and then swiftly swiped at them with one paw.
“Meow, aww!”
‘Meow, damn you!’
The bubbles didn’t last even a second under Little Tabby’s sharp claws.
In the next moment, the towel unfolded and wrapped around the little cat,
turning it into a bundle.
Little Tabby: “…”
After using two dry towels to rub the little cat, it was no longer dripping wet, though it still looked damp.
Wen Youning grabbed the hairdryer: “Alright, time to dry your fur.”
Little Tabby saw her using it and immediately protested: “Meow!”
‘Meow doesn’t want to be dried!’
The sound of the hairdryer seemed to echo in sync with Little Tabby’s thoughts.
“Be good, it’ll be over soon.”
“…” Little Tabby let out a heavy sigh.
‘Humans never listen to me.’
With Little Tabby looking miserable, Wen Youning dried its fur.
Compared to drying a German Shepherd, drying such a small cat was much easier.
After changing out of her bathrobe and into her clothes, Wen Youning came back out.
Little Tabby was still sitting on the table where she had dried its fur.
She walked over, “Little Tabby?”
Little Tabby slowly lifted its gaze, showing no expression.
It was sulking.
“Haha, you’re so cute.” Wen Youning laughed and squatted down in front of it,
gently pressing her index fingers on the corners of its mouth and lifting them up,
“Come on, smile. Smile a little, you smell so good now.”
The pet shampoo had a very mild scent, meant to calm the little cat.
Little Tabby licked its nose, “Meow…”
Don’t tease me, I’m still mad.
“Good kitty.”
Wen Youning petted its fur.
“I’m going to do acupuncture for General now.”
“Meow!”
‘Meow wants to join too!’
“Hmm? You want to join?” Wen Youning thought for a moment.
Since Little Tabby hadn’t really gone outside since she brought it back,
maybe it’d be nice to take it out for some fresh air.
She picked up the backpack she had prepared and said, “Alright. Let’s go together.”
Little Tabby swiftly jumped onto her shoulder, its tail wagging with excitement.
‘Let’s go out and play, let’s go out and play, meow!’
At this time, there was no one at Shi Jinchen’s house.
He was still busy at work in the bureau.
Fortunately, he had left a key at the door.
“General, I’m here.”
“Woof woof!”
The General was lying on the couch, with his front paws clutching a toy ball, happily chewing on it.
“Alright, let’s start today’s acupuncture session.”
Wen Youning came in, clapped her hands, and gestured for the General to come to her.
The General pushed the toy ball aside and tried to snuggle closer to Wen Youning.
He was familiar with Little Tabby as well.
When picked up, he tilted his head and sniffed the freshly bathed little cat.
The scent was a bit odd to him, “Woof…”
Little Tabby didn’t move, and swiped at him with one paw.
‘Silly dog.’
The General was unfazed and licked Little Tabby’s paw.
“Meow!”
‘Silly dog!’
Wen Youning turned on the lights and placed the German Shepherd on the table.
Little Tabby also jumped down from Wen Youning’s shoulder,
landing on the edge of the table.
It crouched in a corner, watching the General.
Taking out the prepared needles, Wen Youning softly said, “Here we go.”
“Woof!” The German Shepherd responded with a low sound,
and its wagging tail came to a stop.
Little Tabby’s pupils contracted as it watched the needle, probably recalling its own past experience with being pricked.
It froze in place.
One needle after another was inserted, and Little Tabby’s pupils kept changing.
…
‘Buzz buzz.’
‘Buzz buzz.’
After finishing the acupuncture session, Wen Youning wiped the blood off the table.
Her phone in her pocket began to vibrate.
Wen Youning answered, “Hello?”
On the other end, Qian Nuo’s voice came through,
“Teacher Wen, woo woo…”
Upon hearing her cry, Wen Youning paused for a moment,
“What happened? Don’t cry. Did you find another egg?”
Qian Nuo choked on her words and replied,
“No… we didn’t find anything. We didn’t find anyone…”
Wen Youning frowned.
“Nothing? How could that be?”
“I don’t know. The police, along with the workers from our Flying Bird Park, searched together.
They also checked the surveillance footage,
but they didn’t find anyone,” Qian Nuo sobbed.
“The person in charge of Monkey Mountain kept making sarcastic remarks,
saying we were just talking nonsense, wasting police resources, and reporting without evidence.”
Originally, Qian Nuo had hoped to catch the thief who had stolen the egg and slap the face of the person in charge of Monkey Mountain, but who would’ve thought that after such a large search, there wasn’t a single clue.
“I suspected there was an insider hiding someone,
especially the person in charge.
But the police said I was just guessing without any evidence.”
Qian Nuo reflected on the whole situation.
Apart from the stolen goose egg,
it seemed there was really no other evidence.
At least the police had come to assist, which was already a small victory.
“When I get back, I’ll tell the police.
Let them come quietly tonight, maybe we can catch someone in the act.
But then I realized that could involve illegal intrusion, and it would get really messy.
So, I dropped that idea.”
Qian Nuo was clearly frustrated.
Wen Youning, though, was firm in her belief that there were people involved.
If someone inside Monkey Mountain was helping hide the thief, it would be hard to find them.
Wen Youning asked,
“Was there anyone inside helping?
Were there hidden paths or anything like that for the thief to escape?”
“No. The person in charge rarely comes to the park.
He only came today because of the news and was on vacation before that.
As I said, the person must still be hiding in Monkey Mountain.”
“I’m planning to follow that person tonight.
If they meet up with someone, I’ll call the police again.”
Qian Nuo said this through gritted teeth.
“Are you going alone?
That’s too dangerous.”
Wen Youning stroked the desk mat, looking thoughtful.
“You want to go tonight? I’ll go with you.”
“Really?”
Qian Nuo’s sobs paused for a moment.
“I was thinking of going around one or two a.m.
I checked the clock-in times for the workers at Monkey Mountain,
and there are often people clocking in around ten.
By one or two a.m., only the night shift workers are there.
That’s when it’s quiet and easier to get things done.”

Just then, Shi Jinchen came home from work.
As he opened his mouth to greet Wen Youning,
he noticed she was on the phone and silently closed his mouth, giving her a brief nod.
Wen Youning glanced at him and continued the call,
“Alright, let the director know in advance, so they know what you’re doing.
You don’t want to get charged with illegal entry.”
Even if it wasn’t a charge for illegal intrusion into a residence,
defending yourself would still be troublesome.
Qian Nuo replied, “Okay!”
The zoo was owned by the director.
As long as the director agreed, Qian Nuo could act freely.
Wen Youning ended the call.
Shi Jinchen had just opened a bottle of water and drank most of it before asking, “What’s going on?
Why are we talking about illegal intrusion now?”
Wen Youning succinctly replied,
“The zoo lost a goose egg.
The thief hid in Monkey Mountain, but the police didn’t find anyone.
The zookeepers want to secretly search for them tonight.”
“Just you two? That’s too dangerous,”
Shi Jinchen felt uneasy upon hearing it.
Wen Youning said, “We’ll call the police first.
We won’t confront the thief directly.”
Shi Jinchen thought for a moment,
“Around one or two a.m.?
I don’t have anything planned, I’ll go with you.”
Wen Youning was taken aback.
“One or two a.m.? But you’re not…”
Shi Jinchen gave her a look that said, ‘You know what I mean.’
“Don’t worry, I’ll be careful.”
He continued, “Just let me know when you’re about to go.
Otherwise, I won’t feel at ease and will end up following anyway.
Might as well go together from the start.
If we catch the thief, it will be an achievement for both of us.”
“Alright.
Let’s contact each other later.”
Shi Jinchen gave an ‘OK’ gesture. “Got it.”
Later that night.
The zoo’s streetlights were dimmed to the lowest setting,
casting shadows over the park’s artificial landscape.
A slight breeze blew through, making it feel a little chilly.
With the director’s approval, they didn’t need to avoid the surveillance cameras, only the people in Monkey Mountain.
this novel looks very interesting, found it from novelupdates.
so while i was reading, i found that at the end of chapter 20 to chapter 22, there are some missing parts, as the story doesn’t add up, like it was skipped.
i first thought maybe the author just suddenly jump places, then when i read ch 21, i noticed that a big chunk of stories are missing.
like after bathing the tabby, MC just suddenly talking to a person in front of a warehouse, and then they caught the thief???
as i read on ch 22, they just suddenly in the car with a monkey in the backpack?? coming out of police station????
so i google and find the raw, and found out that there’s a lot of missing parts.
you might want to fix these chapters.
ch 20 is not so obvious, but from 21 is very obvious.
It has been fixed now
